PESHAWAR, Apr 11 (APP):A high-level meeting with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the chair Thursday expressed concern over spread of leishmaniasis disease in South Waziristan and decided to take steps on war footing for its extension to other areas.
The meeting was called to review development projects initiated in merged districts of former tribal areas.
The Chief Minister showed resentment over spread of leishmaniasis in South Waziristan and directed the authorities to take urgent step for containing the disease.
Ajmal Wazir, spokesman for the merged districts said if prompt and effective steps were not taken, the disease could take a shape of epidemic and affect other districts.
The meeting decided to send doctors from Peshawar to South Waziristan and adjacent districts on urgent basis to control the disease.
The Chief Minister directed for dispatching 30000 more injections immediately to South Waziristan as he was told the stock of injections has been exhausted owing to large number of patients.
The CM also directed for provision of mosquito nets, fumigation spray, expert doctors and other necessary equipments to affected areas to contain the spread of disease. The departments concerned were also directed to adopt strict preventive measures against the disease.
It was agreed in the meeting that an awareness campaign should be carried out to inform people regarding adaptation of preventive measures against the disease.
Meanwhile, Health Minister, Hasham Inamullah has also taken a strong notice of the spread of leishmaniasis disease and has directed the health authorities to take steps on urgent basis to contain further spread of the disease and provide best possible cure facilities to the affected people.
