ISLAMABAD, Aug 4 (APP):A prominent Kashmiri woman Hurriyat leader Shamim Shawl Sunday called for a revised Kashmir policy that prioritizes the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people and with a deep sense of urgency she stressed the need for the international community to intervene and rescue Kashmir from the clutches of oppression.
Shawl, a prominent voice in the Kashmiri freedom movement talking to PTV news channel emphasized that the international community has a moral obligation to act and ensure that the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination is respected and their fundamental freedoms are protected.
“On Youm-e-Istehsal, a day marking the third anniversary of India’s illegal annexation of Kashmir, Shamim Shawl has issued a heartfelt appeal to the global community to stand in solidarity with the oppressed people of Kashmir.
Shamim Shawl urges the world to recognize the grave human rights violations and humanitarian crisis unfolding in Kashmir.
She calls for collective action to end the occupation, restore freedom and dignity to the Kashmiri people, and ensure a just and peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict.
“The world cannot afford to remain silent spectators to the atrocities being committed against the Kashmiri people,” Shawl said.
“We need a Kashmir policy that is grounded in empathy, justice, and a commitment to human rights, she said, adding, Pakistani all political parties should also devise a comprehensive approach and bring a new Kashmir Policy in Parliament.”
Shawl’s appeal comes at a time when Kashmir is witnessing a surge in human rights violations, with reports of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and torture.
The Kashmiri people, she said, are living under a state of siege, with their basic freedoms curtailed and their voices silenced, she decried.
The international community, Shawl urged, must recognize the gravity of the situation and take concrete steps to address the Kashmir issue. “We need a solution that is acceptable to the Kashmiri people, not one that is imposed upon us,” she said.
